The spring equinox is a time to embrace new beginnings and set intentions for growth and renewal in all aspects of life. Here are some ways you can do that.

Every March in the northern hemisphere the vernal equinox comes, and there is a balance of light and dark.

The spring equinox aka as Ostara is a time to embrace new beginnings and set intentions for growth and renewal in all aspects of life. Ostara, aka Eostre, is a Northern European goddess of fertility. She is associated with the radiant dawn, fertility, spring, flowers, and rebirth. Whilst historical records are scarce, Eostre’s legacy endures through the symbols and traditions associated with her, such as eggs, bunnies, and the arrival of spring, all of which continue to be part of modern Easter celebrations.

Here are some ways you can honour the changing of the seasons and take time to connect with the energy of the equinox –

Take a few minutes today to celebrate and contemplate. Go outside today and use your senses:

  • gaze at the sky and soak in the view
  • smell the blossoms on fruit trees or spring flowers
  • listen to the sound of birds nesting
  • touch the bark of a tree or new grass
  • taste the nectar of a honeysuckle flower

If you are not able to get outside today, take some time this evening to:

  • Drink a hot herbal tea
  • Light a white, green or yellow candle
  • Light some incense.
  • Buy yourself flowers.

Another way to connect is to create a ritual:

  • Create a temporary altar or follow the steps below if you have one already. Your altar can be inside or outside.
  • Decorate your altar with fresh flowers or some young seasonal plants.
  • Add some of your favourite crystals to embrace the spirit of spring and balance.
  • Fill a vessel with fresh spring water and float flower buds or petals.
  • Incorporate elements like incense, oils with floral scents, and candles in colours symbolizing fertility and the Sun.
  • You can move your body or find stillness.

Whatever you do, take time for reflection by meditating or journaling.

Here are some things you might want to use as prompts:

  • Is there anything you’re attached to and need to let go of?
  • What do you want to create?
  • What’s holding you back from creating it?
  • What is the first step you need to take towards change?
  • List 20 things that are working right now.
